Smog Testing in Tracy, CA
A straightforward, DMV-required smog inspection at a STAR Certified test-only station — no repairs, no upsell, just your test result.
What is a smog check?
A California smog check inspects your vehicle’s emissions-control equipment and, for most vehicles, its engine computer and emissions output, to confirm it meets state requirements. The DMV generally asks for a passing smog certificate when you renew registration on a vehicle that’s due, when ownership changes, and when you bring a vehicle in from another state.
Who needs one?
Most gasoline vehicles need a smog check every two years. Newer vehicles are exempt for their first model years, and electric vehicles and motorcycles are exempt. See our smog check requirements guide or check the BAR website for your specific vehicle.
What to expect at our station
- Check in at the counter with your vehicle and DMV notice (if you have one).
- We perform the inspection and electronically report the result to the state.
- If your vehicle passes, you’ll receive your certificate. If it doesn’t, we’ll give you the inspection report to take to a licensed repair shop.
Vehicles we test include domestic and foreign cars, trucks and SUVs, hybrids, eligible diesels and RVs and motorhomes.
Pro tip: Make sure your check-engine light is off and drive your vehicle a bit before arriving so it’s fully warmed up.
